Rosanna DeSoto (born September 2, 1950 in San José , California ) is an American actress .

Life

DeSoto was born on September 2, 1950, to Mexican immigrants . DeSoto earned a degree in Spanish literature at San Jose State University .

In 1974 she married Jonathan Taplin, with whom she has a daughter (* 1976). The marriage lasted until 1978. From the 1980 marriage with David S. Ward comes another daughter (* 1981).

Career

From the early 1970s DeSoto was seen in film and television productions. She made her cinema debut in 1979 in the comedy Zwei in Teufels Küche . In 1981 she starred alongside Nick Nolte in the drama Street of Sardines . A larger role followed in 1987 in the biopic La Bamba , which thematizes the life story of the musician Ritchie Valens and the story of the song of the same name . For her role as Fabiola Escalante in the drama Stand and Deliver , she was named Best Supporting Actress at the 1989 Independent Spirit Awards . Supporting roles followed as the wife of Dustin Hoffman 's Vito McMullen in Family Business (1989) and as Klingon Chancellor in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Land (1991). After that, DeSoto was rarely seen in cinema and television productions.

In 2005 the play A Woman in Progress / Canto de Oro, Cuento de Mujer, written by her, was released by the Intar Theater group in New York.
