Ross Philip Mintzer (born May 26, 1987 in New York City , New York ) is an American musician and songwriter . He is a multi-instrumentalist , plays guitar, saxophone , flute and sings. He has had his own band named after him since 2012. He is mainly active in jazz and world music .

Life

Mintzer is from New York City. He is the nephew of saxophonist Bob Mintzer , who taught Mintzer since he was 8 years old. Later he also had private lessons with Marc Mommaas . Mintzer played in the jazz band of Mamaroneck High School and with Dr. Meeker. In 2005, he was one of 29 high school students selected to perform at the 2005 Grammy Awards with the Gibson / Baldwin Jazz Ensemble. Mintzer also performed with Benny Golson at the Fonda Theater in Hollywood . In 2005 he also appeared on the national public radio program From the Top with bassist Michael Thurber . The two played Johann Sebastian Bach's Invention 1 and 2 . In 2005 he also won the 28th Annual Student Award from Down Beat magazine as one of two winners in the blues / pop / rock and jazz instrumental soloist category. Jazziz magazine invited him to take part in his compilation Jazziz on Disc . His song Guayaquil was inducted into the Library of Congress .

After high school, he studied at the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan and the Manhattan School of Music .

Together with bassist Michael Turber, Mintzer founded the Duo Remington, which grew into a trio with the engagement of Greg Evans as a drummer. The band was named after their mentor David Remington. In 2009, he and Thurber began to roam the United States holding musical workshops for young musicians. In February 2011, he taught at the American University of Sharjah (AUS) in Pakistan . In Karachi , he taught from October 2011 to February 2012 children in music and English. He also organized events and led a girls' choir.

In 2012 he founded the Ross Mintzer Band, which has released three singles and one music video so far . The band also played in New York City, Los Angeles, St. Louis and Chicago.

Ross Mintzer has been committed to the virtual monetary unit Bitcoin since 2014 . He was one of the organizers of a music festival in New York City. His band also performed there. In December 2014 he performed as a saxophonist at the Dubai Bitcoin Conference at the Dubai International Financial Center.
