The Rotestein , also called Red Stone , in the Harz is about 505 m above sea level. NHN high elevation near Hasselfelde in the Harz district in Saxony-Anhalt .
Geographical location
The Rotestein is located in the Lower Harz in the Harz / Saxony-Anhalt Nature Park . It rises about 4.7 km north-northeast of Hasselfelde , a district of the town of Upper Harz am Brocken . Its wooded landscape falls to the north, west and south steeply into the valley of the Rappbode carrying Rappbode reservoir ( 423.6 m ) and passes to the east-southeast for about 1.2 km away Great Stemberg ( 517.1 m above).
Opportunities for viewing and hiking
The fastest way to get to the Rotestein is from the hiking car park located about 900 m south-east near a curve on federal road 81 on forest paths. Something west-northwest of the peak of a mountain is a viewpoint ( 502.9 m ; ⊙ ), wherein m is 79.3 above the water surface Rappbode reservoir at full storage ( storage destination ), and as No. 54 in the system of the stamping stations of. Harzer Wandernadel is incorporated. There is an iron sundial and the information board cultural landscape in transition - Rappbodetalsperre / Rotestein viewpoint . From the vantage point, behind whose natural stone wall the terrain slopes steeply to the reservoir, the view extends across the reservoir towards the west-northwest to the Hohnekamm , Wurmberg and Brocken as well as to the southwest to the Carlshaushöhe . In the reservoir, the Preceptor Cliff can be seen in the west-southwest .
