The Rothenbach is an 11 km long, eastern and right tributary of the Wied in the Rhineland-Palatinate Westerwaldkreis .

The Rothenbach rises in the north of the Westerwald . Its source is located south-southwest of Gehlert on the north side of the Gietzebeul mountain ( 495.2 m above sea level ). It flows through the villages of Gehlert, Hachenburg and Hattert , and then flows south of the Mudenbach district of Hanwerth into the Wied , the Rhine tributary coming there from the south .
Catchment area and tributaries
The catchment area of the Rothenbach is 31.873 km² . Its tributaries include (viewed downstream): Selbach, Angelbach and Ahlenbach on the left and Gehlerter Bach, Oberbach, Niederbach and Bölsbach on the right.
Economic use and hydrology
The Westerwald brewery uses the very soft (1.5 dH) rock spring water of the Rothenbach for beer production. The purified water from the Hachenburg sewage treatment plant, which has existed since the mid-1960s, is fed into the stream.
