Rozario Menezes

Rozario Menezes SMM (born August 30, 1969 in Virajpet , Karnataka , India ) is an Indian religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Lae .

Life

Rozario Menezes joined the order of the Montfortaner , whose boys' seminar he had attended before entering the order. He studied at the University of Mysore and the Dharmaram College in Bangalore , put on 31 May 1992, the profession , and received on 4 November 1999, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

After his ordination he was assistant to the novice master and economist of his order in India. From 2000 he worked as a missionary in Papua New Guinea , interrupted by studying psychology in Montreal from 2008 to 2011. He was active in various leadership roles within his order and at the diocesan level as well as for the Bishops' Conference . From 2012 to 2015 he was President of the Association of Orders in Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands . He was a member of the College of Consultors and the Council of Priests of the Archdiocese of Port Moresby and had been a member of the General Council of his Order in Rome since 2017.

Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Lae on October 10, 2018. The Archbishop of Port Moresby , John Cardinal Ribat MSC , ordained him episcopal on December 15 of that year . Co- consecrators were his predecessor Christian Blouin CMM and the Archbishop of Madang , Stephen Reichert OFMCap .
