Rudolf Kaiser (English studies)

Rudolf Kaiser (born April 1, 1927 in Meinkenbracht ) is a German Anglist and professor emeritus. He wrote nonfiction books about the Indians of North America and is considered an expert in this field.

life and work

Kaiser was born in the Sauerland as the son of a farmer. He attended the village school and received Latin lessons from the village pastor. He then went to high school in Paderborn , where he graduated from high school in 1947. He studied philosophy, English and Latin in Münster , Freiburg im Breisgau and Bonn . In the years from 1954 to 1964 he initially worked as a high school teacher before he was appointed professor for English at the University of Alfeld (Leine) in 1964. From 1970, after the university was relocated, he was Professor of English at the University of Hildesheim .

Since the beginning of the 1980s, Emperor's main focus has been on the culture and literature of the North American Indians. He wrote a number of books on these subjects, often in collaboration with his daughter Michaela Kaiser. He visited various Indian peoples, such as the Hopi Indians and the Navajo in the Arizona desert, but also the villages of Pueblo Indians and several Apache peoples.

Some of his books have been translated into different languages.

In 2009 he published his autobiography My First Eight Decades .
