Rudolf Kner

Rudolf Kner (born August 24, 1810 in Linz , † October 27, 1869 in Vienna ) was an Austrian zoologist, geologist, paleontologist and ichthyologist .

life and work

Kner first studied medicine and received his doctorate in this subject. He then took a position at the Vienna kuk Hof-Naturalienkabinett , where he a. a. worked with Johann Jakob Heckel , but in 1841 he switched to the University of Lemberg as professor of natural history and agricultural studies and returned to Vienna in 1849, first as a supplement to mineralogy, then as professor of zoology at the university (appointed November 16, 1849). His main research focus was descriptive fish science. He was also an avid paleontologist and geologist and wrote a textbook on the subject (1851).

Honors

In 1863 he was elected a corresponding member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences .
