Rudolf Meyer (composer)

Rudolf Meyer (* 1943 in Küsnacht ) is a Swiss organist , composer and university professor .

Live and act

Meyer studied organ, school music , church music and composition at the Zurich Conservatory . He complemented his studies in 1966 with a study visit to Paris with Marie-Claire Alain . He also attended master classes with Anton Heiller , Luigi Ferdinando Tagliavini , Jean Guillou and Nikolaus Harnoncourt .

As a school and church musician, he initially had jobs from 1963 to 1965 in Uetikon am See , from 1966 to 1971 at the Burgdorf church and from 1971 to 1975 in Rapperswil and at the Christkönig College in Nuolen .

In 1976 he was in Winterthur as first organist of the town church and lecturer for artistic organ playing, improvisation and chamber music at the Winterthur Conservatory (later University of Music and Theater Zurich ) called, he held this position until the 2,001th

Meyer held lectureships as a guest lecturer at the Conservatorium of Music New South Wales , at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis and from 1996 to 1997 as a professor of organ playing and improvisation at the Cologne University of Music .

In 1980 he founded the Capella Musica Loquens Zurich and directed it until 1990. From 1985 to 1999 Meyer was artistic director of the five international organ conferences in Winterthur.

As a musician, juror and lecturer, Meyer is often on concert tours and at festivals in Europe , Russia and overseas. He also works as a consultant for new organs and restorations. For example, for Orgelbau Kuhn AG in the reformed church in Spiez, in the reformed church in Linsebühl St. Gallen, and in Winterthur at the city church as well as in his house organ. Also for Späth organ building in the Catholic Church in Weinfelden and in the Catholic Church Lantsch / Lenz GR or for Orgelbau Stemmer AG z. B. in the St. Franziskus Church Ebmatingen. His compositions include "spiritual and profane for various occupations".

In 1987 he was awarded the Carl Heinrich Ernst Art Prize for his services to art in this city. Rudolf Meyer lives in Winterthur.
