Rudolf Vogel (materials researcher)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Friedrich Rudolf Vogel (born February 13, 1882 in Zell im Wiesental , † August 5, 1970 in Göttingen ) was a German materials researcher and metallographer .

Life

A native of the Black Forest Rudolf Vogel completed by put- High School , a study of chemistry at the Georg-August University of Göttingen , where he in 1913 habilitated . In 1922 Rudolf Vogel was commissioned by the Württemberg State Trade Office to equip a research institute for precious metals. In 1924 Vogel moved to Berlin-Dahlem to the State Materials Testing Office, the successor to the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Metal Research .

In 1926 he returned to Göttingen. In the same year he received the offer, succeeding Bernhard Osann , to take over the chair for metallurgy and foundry at the Clausthal mining academy . Vogel refused and from 1927 set up the metallographic laboratory at the University of Göttingen. Rudolf Vogel, who was appointed associate professor for metallurgy and metallurgy, retired in 1960 . In November 1933 he signed the professors' declaration of Adolf Hitler at German universities and colleges .

Vogel - he made a contribution to the qualitative and quantitative description of the structure of metallic materials - shifted his research focus in the 50s and early 60s to materials that were used in space travel and in the peaceful use of nuclear power . He was awarded the Wilhelm Exner Medal in 1961 by the Austrian trade association and an honorary doctorate in 1967 from the Technical University of Stuttgart . In 1969 he received the Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Federal Republic of Germany.
