Rudolf von Rossbacher

Rudolf Rossbacher , 1860 Freiherr von Rossbacher , also Roßbacher , (born October 30, 1806 in Podgórze , † March 19, 1886 in Vienna ) was an Austrian general and deputy Reich Minister of War .

Life

Rossbacher began his military career in 1821 as an expropriis cadet with the engineer corps. In 1824 he switched to the Tyrolean Kaiserjägerregiment . There he was promoted to captain in 1841 and was accepted into the quartermaster's staff. From 1849 on he worked in Josef Wenzel Radetzky von Radetz 's surgery office. There he was involved in planning the last campaign. He thus rose in 1849 to lieutenant colonel , and in the following year to colonel on. In the years 1854 and 1855 he led the operative business in the headquarters of the High Command of the 3rd and 4th Armies in the course of the intervention in Wallachia.

Rossbacher was promoted to head of the 5th Division of the Army High Command and major general in 1857 . In 1859 he became part of the Italian campaign in the Sardinian War and was head of the Operations Chancellery of the Army High Command. In 1865 he was entrusted with the management of the 2nd, 5th, 6th, 10th and 11th departments of the Reich Ministry of War. In the following year he was appointed Deputy Reich Minister of War, from 1869 he also took over the position of head of the presidential section of the Reich Ministry of War.

Rossbacher was appointed President of the Military Court of Appeal in 1873 . He was promoted to Feldzeugmeister on April 24, 1873 . On February 1, 1874, he retired , but was also appointed a member of the manor house .

Rossbacher was married to Emilie Gundling (1829 / 1830–1882), the daughter of Franz Josef Gundling (1791–1879), owner of the kk Tabakhauptverlag in Podgórze. The marriage had three children. A daughter and two sons, only Heinrich Freiherr von Rossbacher succeeded his father and became an officer.

Rossbacher died unexpectedly of a stroke and was buried in the family vault at the Grinzing cemetery next to his wife.
