Rudolph Green

Rudolph Edward George Green (born November 11, 1926 in Kingston ) is a retired Jamaican major general and former chief of staff of the Jamaica Defense Force (JDF).

Life

Rudolph Green was born the son of dockworkers George Albert Green, Stevedore and Elma Louise Williams-Green. He attended Central Branch Elementary School in Kingston and then transferred to Kingston Technical High School (KTHS).

In 1946 he began working in the public service as a member of the staff of the Jamaican Health Department. He later worked for the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MOA) and the accounting firm Carman & Bruce.

In 1952 he joined the British West India Regiment (WIR). He completed his officer training at Staff College Camberley . On May 5, 1952, he was promoted to second lieutenant and a month later to lieutenant . On September 5, 1955, he was transferred to a captain's position and then finally promoted to captain on May 5, 1958. In 1959 he graduated from the School of Infantry in Warminster , Wiltshire . In the same year he joined the Moore Keys Lodge Masonic Lodge in Kingston.

With the country's independence in 1962, he was accepted into the newly established Jamaica Defense Force and promoted to major . In 1965 he was deputy commander of the 1st Battalion of the Jamaica Regiment (1JR). From 1966 to 1972 he commanded the battalion in the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and was the first commander of the newly established Support and Services Battalion (Sp and Svcs Bn) from June to December 1973 . In 1973 he was appointed military commander in chief of the Jamaican Armed Forces and promoted to brigadier . In 1977 he was appointed Major General for the first time in this service. During his tenure, he declared a state of emergency in 1976 and the massacre at the Green Bay training site near Port Henderson on January 5, 1978, in which five supporters of the Jamaica Labor Party were killed. In 1979 it was retired.

Upon his retirement, Green became the Administrative Director of the Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica (PJC). From 1978 to 1988 he was Deputy Grand Master of the Grand Lodge Jamaica and Cayman Islands . Since 1988 he has been President of the District Board of General Purposes with the rank of Provincial Deputy Grand Sword Bearer (PDepGSwdB). In addition to the Order of Craft and Royal Arch , he also holds higher offices in other Masonic orders . He has served as president of the Jamaica Rugby Association and the Jamaica Squash Racquet Association , Honorary Vice President of the Jamaica Legion and the Jamaica Scouts Association, and is a member of several sports and aid organizations.

Green has been married to Margaret Olivia Hudson-Phillips since March 30, 1964. The marriage resulted in a son and two daughters.
