Rufus Blodgett (* 9. October 1834 in Dorchester , Grafton County , New Hampshire , †  3. October 1910 in Long Branch , New Jersey ) was an American politician of the Democratic Party , of the State of New Jersey in the US Senate represented.

Rufus Blodgett attended New Hampshire public schools and Wentworth Academy , a private school. Then he trained as a machinist. In 1866 he moved to New Jersey, where he settled in Long Branch. There he started a professional career in the manufacture of railway supplies. He also became President of Long Branch City Bank .

Blodgett's first political mandate was from 1878 to 1879 as a member of the New Jersey General Assembly . From 1884 to 1910 he was superintendent of the New York and Long Branch Railroad . In 1886 he was elected a Democrat to the United States Senate, where he served between March 4, 1887 and March 3, 1893. He did not stand for re-election. Instead, he served as Mayor of Long Branch from 1893 to 1898. He also worked in the railway and banking industries. Rufus Blodgett died of atherosclerosis on October 3, 1910 . He was buried in the village cemetery of Wentworth, New Hampshire.
