John Gerald Milton

John Gerald Milton (born January 21, 1881 in Jersey City , New Jersey , †  April 14, 1977 ibid) was an American politician ( Democratic Party ) who represented the state of New Jersey in the US Senate .

John Milton attended public schools in his hometown of Jersey City. After studying law , he was inducted into the bar in 1903 and began practicing law in Jersey City.

On January 18, 1938, he was nominated by the new Governor of New Jersey, A. Harry Moore , to succeed him in the US Senate. Milton served in his mandate until a successor was elected on November 8 of the same year; he renounced his own candidacy in this by-election, which the Republican William Warren Barbour won. After his brief tenure in Congress , Milton resumed his legal practice in Jersey City, where he died in April 1977. He was buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington .
