The Ruhr Games are a biennial youth sports event in the Ruhr area . The organizer is the Regionalverband Ruhr (RVR).

Several national and international youth athletes compete against each other in various sports and disciplines on the site of the venue . Furthermore, a trend sports area with sporting activities and test opportunities for everyone, such as a parkour facility, walls for climbing and goal shooting , can be visited. A total of 217 competitions in 200 disciplines and 16 sports will be held. In addition to the competitions, there are also sports shows in the field of BMX, pole vault and freestyle motocross .

In addition, workshops for young people, street art and music concerts in the style of free and outside are offered. In the evening, the European light installation of the Landscape Park Duisburg-Nord illuminates.

The entire event can be attended free of charge and without registration. The event takes place from Thursday to Sunday. The Ruhr Games are broadcast on Sport1 and are among the largest sports festivals for young people in Europe.

In 2015 the first Ruhr Games took place in the cities of Essen , Gelsenkirchen , Oberhausen , Bottrop and Gladbeck . Around 4,000 young athletes between the ages of 12 and 23 (including 1,000 from other European countries than Germany) took part in 16 sports and 12 international tournaments. At the same time, 147 cultural events with 529 artists and 30 bands took place. The event was attended by over 125,000 people and ended with a final concert by Jan Delay at the Zeche Zollverein .

In 2017 the event was attended by approx. 58,500 people and took place at 3 different locations in Dortmund , Hagen and Hamm . 6,500 athletes (including 2,000 international guests from 26 nations) took part in 57 sports disciplines and 14 bands played.

The Ruhr Games 2019 took place in the Duisburg-Nord landscape park . In 2019, the Europa-Expo took place parallel to the Ruhr Games , providing information on the subject of Europe and the EU in eight tents and offering several hands-on activities. The musicians in 2019 were Cro , Bosse , Alex Mofa Gang and DJ Mad . 32 nations with over 5600 athletes took part in the games. There were 217 competitions in 200 disciplines and 16 sports. The Ruhr Games 2019 were followed by over 100 thousand visitors.
