Rui Jorge (born March 27, 1973 in Vila Nova de Gaia ; full name Rui Jorge de Sousa Dias Macedo Oliveira ) is a former Portuguese football player and currently football coach . He currently coaches the Portuguese U-21 national soccer team .
Career as a football player
society
In the youth sector, Jorge has been through the various ages of FC Porto since 1982 . In the 1990/91 season he came to his first professional missions for the kites . In his first year the national cup could be won. Even before the start of the league, Porto secured the Super Cup. So Jorge was able to celebrate triumphs early in his career. Since he mostly played the role of supplementary player, he decided to move. In the 1991/92 season he joined the lower class club Rio Ave FC . For Rio Ave he was on the ball in the youth division as well as in the first team squad. A year later he returned to Porto. From then on, the left-back developed more and more into a mainstay of the team and was able to win national titles with them. In addition to the championships in 1993, 1995, 1996, 1997 and 1998, the trophy was won in 1994 and 1998 and the Super Cup in 1992, 1993, 1996 and 1997. After winning the national triple in 1997/98, Sporting Lisbon secured the services of Jorge. Other titles were collected with the lions . As in Porto, Jorge was a top performer and leading player in Lisbon. In its final season with the Greens and Whites , the team made it to the UEFA Cup final . There one was defeated on May 18, 2005 by the Russian representative CSKA Moscow . Jorge was not used in this final. To end his career, he moved to Belenenses within the capital and ran for the cakes for another year .
National team
Jorge represented the colors of his country in various youth teams. With the U-21 of Portugal he lost the final of the European Championship in 1994 with 1: 2 against Italy . In 1996 he was a participant in the Olympic Games in Atlanta , where fourth place was achieved.
Although he made his senior national team debut in a friendly against Norway in 1994 , he had to wait a long time before he started playing regularly. It was only when Jorge moved to Sporting Lisbon in 1998 that he became a regular for the Portuguese. For the European Championship in 2000 , the World Championship in 2002 and the European Championship in 2004 , he was appointed to the Portuguese squad.

Career as a coach
Jorge began his coaching career in 2006 as a youth coach at Belenenses Lisbon , in 2009 he took over the first team there for half a year after the brief expulsion of coach Jaime Pacheco .
Jorge has been the coach of the Portuguese U-21 national football team since September 19, 2010 . With the U-21 national team, he reached the final of the 2015 European Championship , which they lost on penalties to Sweden.
