Rupert Kubon

Rupert Kubon (born May 27, 1957 in Friedrichshafen ) is a former German politician (then SPD ) and was Lord Mayor of Villingen-Schwenningen from 2003 to 2018 .

Career

Kubon grew up in Freiburg, studied German and history for teaching at grammar schools at the University of Konstanz and at the Albert-Ludwigs-University in Freiburg , graduating with the first state examination in 1985 . In 1991 he received his doctorate with a study on the history of Baden schools.

Kubons party political activity began in the 1970s in CDU -Schülerorganisation Students Union . In 1989 he joined the SPD.

During his studies, Kubon worked as a freelance journalist for the Catholic News Agency and for Südwestrundfunk . In 1990 he first worked for the SPD member of the Bundestag Klaus Kübler in Bonn and in the same year became office manager of the SPD member Reinhard Weis . In 1996 Kubon became a consultant for social affairs, culture and education at the city of Dessau , where he was promoted to head of the cultural department in 1998.

In 2002, Kubon was elected Lord Mayor of Villingen-Schwenningen, after the incumbent at the time, Manfred Matusza , surprisingly did not run again. He took office in 2003. In the mayor election on October 24, 2010, Kubon was confirmed in office with 54.7%. In February 2018, Kubon announced that he would not be running for a third term in the October election, but would rather train as a deacon .

In 2020 he left the SPD and became a member of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen .

Personal

Rupert Kubon is a Roman Catholic , married and has two daughters.

In autumn 2015 he played alongside Henry Greif in the two-person play Der Büchsenöffner by Victor Lanoux at the Theater am Turm Villingen .
