Street description
The RN4 begins in the village of San Ignacio on the RN1 and runs west through sparsely populated areas and wetlands with little afforestation and little cultivation area. For the first 130 kilometers to Pilar , the RN4 hardly goes through towns. Pilar is on the border with Argentina. There is a ferry across the Paraguay River . The RN4 leads to Pilar in a south-west direction, always parallel to the river to the south-western tip of Paraguay. The RN4 ends in the locality of Paso de Patria, near the confluence of the two rivers Río Paraná and Río Paraguay.
history
The RN4 is not an important road as it only passes small villages. It is the only road in southwest Paraguay through a sparsely populated area. In 2012 it was paved east-west part from San Ignacio to Pilar, but not the southern part of the route.
