Ryūichi Kawai ( Japanese 河 合 龍 一 , Kawai Ryūichi ; born September 26, 1983 in Eniwa , Hokkaidō ) is a Japanese ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Nikkō IceBucks in the Asia League Ice Hockey since 2015 .

Career

Ryūichi Kawai began his career as a hockey player with the Kokudo Ice Hockey Team , for whose professional team he made his debut in the newly formed Asia League Ice Hockey in the 2003/04 season . He gave two assists in three games. In 2005 and 2006, the defender won the ALIH championship with Kokudo. His team was renamed Seibu Prince Rabbits in 2006. In the 2006/07 and 2008/09 seasons, the Japanese international failed with his team in the playoff final at the Nippon Paper Cranes . After the dissolution of the Seibu Prince Rabbits, Kawai joined the league newcomer Tōhoku Free Blades like his younger brother Takuma for the 2009/10 season . In the 2010/11 season, which ended prematurely due to the Tōhoku earthquake , he and his team won the championship of the Asia League Ice Hockey.

For the 2011/12 season, Kawai moved within the ALIH to the South Korean club High1 , where he played for four years before returning to Japan in 2015, where he is now on the ice for the Nikkō IceBucks .

International

In the junior division, Kawai played at the U18 B World Championship in 2000 and the U18 World Championship in Division I in 2001 as well as in the U20 World Championship in Division II in 2001 and 2002 and Division I in 2003 .

For Japan , Kawai took part in the Division I World Championships in 2007 , 2008 and 2009 . He also played in the second qualifying round for the 2010 Winter Olympics in 2009 . At the Winter Asian Games 2007 he won the gold medal with Japan.
