Takuma Kawai ( Japanese 河 合 卓 真 , Kawai Takuma ; born August 10, 1988 in Eniwa , Hokkaidō ) is a Japanese ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Tōhoku Free Blades in the Asia League Ice Hockey since 2009 .

Career

Takuma Kawai began his career as a hockey player in the Canadian junior league QMJHL , in which he was active for one season each for the Voltigeurs de Drummondville and Olympiques de Gatineau from 2006 to 2008 . With Gatineau he won the Coupe du Président , the championship of the QMJHL, in the 2007/08 season . For the 2009/10 season, the winger and his brother Ryūichi signed a contract with the newly formed Tōhoku Free Blades from the Asia League Ice Hockey , for which he scored two goals in 18 games and gave seven templates. He also received a penalty of 24 minutes. In the 2010/11 season, which ended prematurely due to the Tōhoku earthquake , he and his team won the championship title of the Asia League Ice Hockey for the first time as assistant captain. In 2013 and 2015 he was able to win the title again with his team.

International

For Japan , Kawai took part in the junior division only in the U18 World Junior Championship of Division I in 2006 . In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the World Championships in Division I in 2010 , 2012 , 2013 , 2014 , 2016 and 2018, as well as the Winter Asian Games in 2011 and 2017 . At the Asian Games in 2011 he and his team won the silver medal behind Kazakhstan , six years later it was enough to bronze behind the again victorious Kazakhs and South Korea . He also represented his colors at the qualifying tournament for the Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang 2018 .
