Rzgów ( German  Rzgow , 1943–1945 Lancellenstätt ) is a city in the Łódź Voivodeship , Poland . It is the seat of the town-and-country municipality of the same name with 10,383 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2019).

history

The first written mention of the place comes from the year 1378. The town charter according to Magdeburg law was given to the place in 1467 by Casimir IV. In 1475 the church of St. Stanislaus was consecrated. At the end of the 15th and beginning of the 16th century , the town was booming. In 1630 a new church was built, which is still preserved today. In 1750 the new town hall was completed. The proximity to the growing Łódź brought stagnation for the city in the 19th century. On January 23, 1870, Rzgów lost its rights as a city.

During the Second World War , the city was occupied by the Wehrmacht and became part of the Litzmannstadt district in the Reichsgau Wartheland . On 18th May 1943 the city after was otto lancelle , a battery commander during the Battle of Łódź in 1914, in Lancellenstätt renamed. After the invasion of the Red Army , the city was renamed Rzgów again.

On January 1, 2006 , Rzgów received city rights again.

Population development

In 1791 606 people lived in the city. In June 2007 there were 3394 inhabitants, on June 30th 2019 3398 inhabitants.
