Sándor Barcs

Sándor Barcs (born November 10, 1912 in Szeged , † January 7, 2010 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian politician , journalist , author and sports official . Among other things, he was president of the Hungarian football association MLSZ . During the Cold War he held other offices, particularly in the state media sector.

Life

In 2003, Sándor Dorogi presented him with the "Golden Ring" award on behalf of the MTI news agency, which was due to the not undisputed political past of the honoree (he was, among other things, associate judge of the show trial and co-signatory of the death sentence against László Rajk ) in journalists' circles shared feedback received. Sándor Barcs died in Budapest on January 7, 2010 at the age of 97.

In 1965 his book György Szepesi was published in Hungary. A quote from the book reads: “We live to serve the people, and you (György Szepesi) - as we could already see in the editorial staff of the 'Zeitung' - you, even as a communist, adhered to it with strict discipline . "

" Jimmy Hogan taught us everything we know about football." This sentence comes from Sándor Barcs, after the Hungarian national football team won 6-3 in 1953 at Wembley Stadium in London. It was the first away win of a team from the continent against the so-called motherland of football in their own country.
