The E 1 was an accumulator railcar of the Royal Saxon State Railways .
history
The double multiple unit was built in 1904 by the Werdau wagon factory. The electrical equipment was supplied by Siemens , the batteries came from Gottfried Hagen in Cologne-Kalk .
The vehicle was mainly used in suburban traffic between Dresden and Pirna . However, due to the high electricity costs and numerous malfunctions, the new vehicle did not prove itself. The railcar was retired after only two years of service. It was later used as a passenger coach. It only disappeared from public train service during the times of the Reichsbahn, because on a photo from the 1960s one of the car bodies with the round Reichsbahn sign (and the old Saxon porcelain sign with the car number E 1) is a gazebo in Karl-Marx-Stadt- Küchwald to see.
technical features
The vehicle consisted of two largely symmetrical two-axle cars, which were firmly connected to one another with a close coupling. The drive batteries were arranged under the bench seats. The traction motors were coupled to the axles via bevel gears.
The braking equipment was a magnetically operating solenoid brake , supplemented by a handbrake.
The vehicle was illuminated using incandescent lamps and stoves were used for heating.
