Sólveig Anspach

Sólveig Anspach (born December 8, 1960 in Heimaey , Vestmannaeyjar ; † August 7, 2015 in the Drôme department ) was an Icelandic - French film director and screenwriter .

Life

Anspach was born in Iceland as the daughter of the Icelandic architect Högna Sigurðardóttir and a German-American. However, she grew up in New York and Paris. In Paris she studied philosophy and clinical psychology and then film directing at La Fémis . She completed her film studies in 1990 with the short documentary Par amour , in which a prisoner tells how she killed her husband.

Anspach initially worked in the documentary field and made numerous short documentaries, including Vestmannaeyjar (1990) about the volcanic eruption on the Westman Islands in 1973, Sandrine à Paris (1992) about a Parisian pickpocket, Barbara, you are not guilty (1998) about dime novels and their readers , as well as various episodes of the Alla la terre series . She made her feature film directing debut in 1999 with Haut les cœurs! . In the story of a pregnant woman who learned during a routine check-up that she had breast cancer , Anspach also processed her own breast cancer. For skin les cœurs! In 2000 she received her first César nomination in the category Best First Work . Her comedy I'm right back won the 2008 Variety Piazza Grande Award at the Locarno International Film Festival . The French Film Days Tübingen-Stuttgart dedicated a retrospective to Anspach in 2013.

Her film Quicksand (2013) was also very successful. At the César Awards 2015 she was nominated for her script adaptation and brought the participating actors several nominations and awards: Claude Gensac was nominated for César as Best Supporting Actress, Bouli Lanners won the Belgian Film Prize Magritte as Best Actor and Karin Viard won the Prix ​​Lumières for Best Actress .

Anspach died of breast cancer in her home in the Drôme department in 2015. At the time, her latest film, The Effect of Water, was in post-production. It was completed by Jean-Luc Gaget , Anne Riegel, Skuli Fr. Malmquist, Patrick Sobelman and Martin Wheeler and premiered at the Cannes International Film Festival in May 2016 . Anspach was posthumously awarded the Prix SACD in Cannes and, together with Jean-Luc Gaget, received a César in the category Best Original Screenplay in 2017 .
