Sonan desu ka? ( ソ ウ ナ ン で す か？ Are You Lost? ) Is a manga series by the Mangaka Kentarō Okamoto , illustrated by Riri Sagara and has been published in Young Magazine by Kōdansha since January 2017 . So far, four volumes have been published in the tankōbon format. An anime series was realized by Studio Ezo'la and has been released in Japan since July 2, 2019 .
The series follows four high school students who land on a desert island after a plane crash and try to survive.

Four high school students who have been enjoying their lives to the fullest find themselves stranded on a desert island after a plane crash. Fortunately, Homare Onishima, one of the four students, has experience of survival in the wild and is teaching the other girls to make the most of their situation and find a way back to civilization .

- Homare is a student with a serious personality. She had survival training with her father as a child and knows how to survive alone in the wilderness. She has already got into such a situation several times.
- Asuka Suzumori ( 鈴 森 明日香 , Suzumori Asuka )
- Asuka is a cheerful and athletic student who plays on her school's girls' basketball team.
- Mutsu Amatani ( 天 谷 睦 , Amatani Mutsu )
- Mutsu is a shy and clever student who got the best grades in her year . She enjoys reading light novels and wants to become a Yaoi writer in the future .
- Shion Kujō ( 九 条 紫 音 , Kujō Shion )
- Shion is a rich and spoiled girl and at first does not cope well with the situation, but gradually accepts it.
- Jōichi Onishima ( 鬼 島 丈 一 , Onishima Jōichi )
- Jōichi is Homare's father and has taught her everything to survive in the wild . He only appears in flashbacks in the anime .

Manga
Sonan desu ka? was written by Kentarō Okamoto and illustrated by Riri Sagara . The first volume appeared in January 2017 in Young Magazine published by Kōdansha . Kodansha Comics was granted the rights to digitally publish the manga in English in North America . So far, four volumes have been published in the tankōbon format.
Anime
On March 1, 2019, an implementation as an anime series was announced. The production took over the studio Ezo'la , with Nobuyoshi Nagayama acted as director , Tōko Machida wrote the script and Junnosuke Nishio was responsible for the character design . The music was composed by Akiyuki Tateyama . The voice actors MAO , Hiyori Kono , Kiyono Yasuno and Azumi Waki sing the opening credits with Koko wa Doko ( コ コ ハ ド コ ), while Yasuno sang alone the closing song Ikiru ( 生 き る ).
In Japan the series since July 2, 2019 is MBS , Nippon TV and Tokyo MX shown during the streaming service Leiser Crunchyroll the anime outside Japan in subtitles in simulcast offering. The episodes of the series are each almost 15 minutes long.

Reviews
The first episode of the anime series was perceived rather mixed to negative in the season preview on Anime News Network . Nick Creamer, for example, criticized the concept of leaving girls stranded in order to reveal them to the fan service , and described Sōnan desu ka? as partially voyeuristic . The series is something for fans who want to see both " Breasts and Bear Grylls ". Theron Martin, who rated the first episode slightly better, made a candidate for the best girl in Homare Onishima because she embodied what people should bring with them in such situations. He described the anime as a ray of hope in Nobuyoshi Nagayama's vita after working on Happy Sugar Life . Rebecca Silverman understands to some extent what the anime wants to convey to the viewer, but the series is not good at it. She also described in her review that the series was a semi-educational fan service series. James Beckett described the series as perverse: It shows half-naked girls who are nothing more than comedy archetypes.
