Tribufos is a chemical compound from the group of thiophosphoric acid esters . It was patented by the Pittsburgh Coke And Chemical Company in 1960.

Extraction and presentation

Tribufos can be obtained by thio-alkylating phosphorus trichloride with 1-butanethiol and hydrogen peroxide .

use

Tribufos is used as a defoliant in cotton cultivation. In addition, it acts as a synergist by inhibiting esterases .

Admission

The EU Commission decided in 2002 not to include Tribufos in the list of permissible active ingredients in plant protection products. In Switzerland, too, no pesticides containing this active ingredient are permitted.
