The SIK working group Geographical Information Systems for short SIK-GIS was a specialist group of the Swiss IT Conference (SIK) from 1990 to the end of 2018 . The goals included the joint promotion of geographic information systems (GIS) in public administration, the joint handling of issues and the coordination of activities. The SIK-GIS had studies on current GIS topics prepared and organized events to present these studies to a larger audience and put them up for discussion.

Members of the SIK-GIS were representatives of the public administration at federal , canton , city and municipal level . Former members:
- Confederation: Federal Office of Topography (swisstopo), Federal Statistical Office (FSO), Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN, formerly SAEFL)
- Cantons: AG , BL , BE , GE , GR , LU , SG , TG , VD , ZG and ZH
- Cities: City of Bern and City of Zurich

history
The SIK-GIS was used in 1990 by the board of directors and the working conference of the SIK to deal more closely with the new working instrument GIS, the geodata managed in it and the associated methods and technologies. SIK-GIS was one of the founding members of the Swiss Society for Geoinformation (SOGI). SIK-GIS acted as a pioneering group in the development of GIS in Switzerland. Various coordination tasks have since been taken over by other organizations. The rapidly growing volume of work at the GIS departments, which is related to implementation work on the Federal Geoinformation Act (GeoIG), has made it increasingly difficult to find members for the working group. For this reason, the SIK-GIS working group decided on March 22, 2018 to apply to the SIK Board of Directors to dissolve the working group at the end of 2018. On May 2, 2018, the SIK board decided to dissolve the working group according to the proposal.
