SMS Adler was a gunboat of the German Imperial Navy . It was the third, slightly enlarged, Habicht- class ship .

The launch took place on November 3, 1883 in the Kaiserliche Werft in Kiel . It was ordered under the household name Ersatz Comet .

history

The Adler was used in the Pacific as part of the East Asian Cruiser Squadron . On October 28, 1886, the warship hoisted the German flag on the Solomon Islands Bambatani and Choiseul as a symbol of the occupation by the German Empire.

Whereabouts

On March 13, 1889, Apia , Samoa , was hit by a cyclone . The German gunboats Olga , Eber and Adler were anchored and steamed in the harbor . The cyclone lasted for several days. The anchor did not stop on some of the ships and the eagle also began to drift on March 16, despite the anchor and despite full force. The eagle drifted sideways onto the beach, all but 20 of the crew were able to save themselves.
