The SV Masovia Lyck ( Sports Association Masovia 1919 Lyck ) was a German sports club from the East Prussian town of Lyck (today Ełk ). The football department played six seasons in the Gauliga East Prussia

History and sporting development

“Courageous and sporty young people” founded a sports club in autumn 1917, to which they gave the Latinized name of the Masurians , “Masovia”. The soccer team played in the league system of the Baltic Lawn and Winter Sports Association (BRWV). In 1919/20 Masovia Lyck moved into the East Prussian football final as the winner of the first-class regional league East , but lost the final there against SV Prussia-Samland Königsberg with 8-0. After the league system was restructured in 1920, Lyck played in the Masurian District League within District I East Prussia . In 1921 the district league could be won, in the subsequent East Prussian football final, the club just failed at VfB Königsberg . Masovia Lyck also reached the finals of East Prussia as district champion in 1922/23 , but this year the club was again subject to VfB Königsberg . In 1924/25 the district league could also be won, but the club was disqualified for not appearing in the game against SV Viktoria Allenstein in the East Prussian finals. Also in 1925/26 the club reached the East Prussian football finals as district champion of Masuria. For the 1926/27 season , the East Prussian League was introduced as the top division, Massovia Lyck missed qualifying for the top division by taking third place in the South District Cup in 1925/26 and therefore played in the now second-rate Masurian District League from 1926/27 . This could be won again in 1926/27, by winning the District Cup South in 1927 , Lyck qualified for the promotion round to the East Prussian League 1928/29 , but failed in this at SC Prussia Insterburg and thus remained in second class. 1928/29 the relay was introduced as the second league level , Lyck qualified for the Staffelliga Süd and missed the first place in the table by a 0: 1 defeat in the playoff against Rastenburger SV . Since the 1930/31 season, however, the top East Prussian league was dissolved and replaced by three LIgen, Masovia Lyck was allowed to play again first class in the division league south .

When the National Socialists came to power in 1933, the football associations were dissolved and replaced by Sportgaue . The four best teams from the Division League South received a starting place in the Gauliga East Prussia in 1933/34 . By the fourth place in the table in the league actually intended for the 1933/34 association finals, Masovia Lyck qualified for the Gauliga East Prussia . In 1935 the Masurians came to the first round of the Tschammer Cup after victories over Tilsiter SC (7: 3) and VfB Königsberg (1: 0) until they reached the second round, in which they were defeated 2: 1 by the Dresdner Sportfreunde . In the Gauliga top placements were achieved in 1935/36 , 1936/37 and 1937/38 , the club reached the finals held in these seasons. But it was never enough to win the title or to reach the final, in 1938/39 the runner-up title could be won, but with eleven points behind MSV Hindenburg Allenstein . For financial reasons, Masovia Lyck withdrew from the Gauliga after 1939, and the club was no longer able to return to the top class.

After the Second World War , the formerly German Elck was annexed by the Soviet Union and placed under Polish administration . The SV Masovia Lyck , like all other German clubs and facilities, forcing dissolved.

In addition to the footballers, in which at least nine teams of all ages participated in the game year after year, the club from Lyck also had a strong athletics department, in which women also played a role. Outstanding success of the athletes was the repeated victory in the annual "Tannenberglauf".
