Sabri Dino (born January 1, 1942 in Istanbul , † January 14, 1990 ibid) was a Turkish football goalkeeper and entrepreneur. Through his many years of work for Beşiktaş Istanbul , he is very strongly associated with this club and is considered one of the most important goalkeepers in the club's history. After Necmi Mutlu, he is the goalkeeper with the second most first division appearances for Beşiktaş and is in the list of players with the most first division appearances for this club in 20th place. After the end of his football career, he successfully started a textile company.

Player career

Dino started playing club football at the age of 14 at the local club Tarabya SK . He then played for the youth department of the traditional Turkish club Galatasaray Istanbul . Here he was included with other young players by the head coach of the professional team, Gündüz Kılıç , in the squad of the summer training camp. As part of this camp, the team also took part in the post-seasonal Cemal Gürsel Cup , a cup dedicated to the then Turkish Prime Minister Cemal Gürsel . Dino was substituted on in the encounter of June 22, 1960 against an Izmir selection for the Turkish goalkeeper Turgay Şeren and thus completed his first and only game for Galatasaray. In the summer transfer period of 1964 Beşiktaş Istanbul, the goalkeeper Özcan Arkoç moved abroad, which the club was looking for a replacement for Arkoç. So the club signed Dino in the summer of 1964. At Beşiktaş, Dino was only placed behind Necmi Mutlu as a substitute goalkeeper and completed seven league games for his new club in his first season. The situation did not change until the 1967/68 season. During this time he won several titles with his team. I.a. was won in the seasons 1965/66 and 1966/67 the Turkish championship . In addition, the team won the TSYD Istanbul Cup and the Spor Toto Cup in the 1965/66 season . During the 1967/68 season, Dino finally ousted Mutlu and played as Beşiktaş 'goalkeeper until the last season of his career. In his final season, he was ousted from this position by Mete Bozkurt . In the summer of 1975 he ended his career after working for Beşiktaş for eleven years. After the last championship won with Beşiktaş in 1967, Dinos team failed to win another Turkish championship. Instead, the club won various other trophies, such as the Turkish Football Cup , Presidential Cup , TSYD Istanbul Cup and Prime Minister's Cup .

National team

Dino began his career with the Turkish national teams in 1959 during his time at Galatasaray Istanbul with a commitment for the Turkish U-18 national team.

After his convincing performances at Beşiktaş Istanbul, he began playing for the Turkish U-21 national team from 1965 and 1969 , although he was well over 21 in all U-21 matches.

After Dino was able to convince in the U-21 national team, he was nominated by the Turkish national coach Abdulah Gegić in the tournament line-up of the Turkish national team for the ECO Cup in 1969. Gegić nominated for this tournament, in addition to a few experienced national players, predominantly players who had not previously been considered for the national teams. Dino and his team won the tournament. During this tournament he made his senior international debut against the Iranian national team .

After this encounter he was not considered for the senior national team for three years. It was only after long-time national goalkeeper Ali Artuner had ended his national team career in the winter of 1971 that she and Yasin Özdenak were promoted to national goalkeeper . Both shared the goal of the national team alternately until 1975.

After his football career ended, Dino worked in the textile industry and founded the Sabri Dino brand, named after him, which specializes in the manufacture of shirts . With this brand he achieved great success, especially in Turkey in the 1970s and 1980s.

After Dino experienced some economic failures in the late 1980s, he committed suicide by jumping off the Bosporus Bridge on January 14, 1990.
