Necmi Mutlu (born February 15, 1935 in Istanbul ) is a former Turkish football goalkeeper and coach. Through his many years of work for Beşiktaş Istanbul , he is very strongly associated with this club and is considered one of the most important goalkeepers in the club's history. He is the goalkeeper with the most first division appearances for Beşiktaş and is in the list of the players with the most first division appearances for this club in 16th place.

Player career

society

Mutlu was born in Istanbul in 1935, according to some sources not until 1937. He started club soccer at the age of 16 at the local club Kadırga SK . According to the incompletely documented sources, he played for this club for a year or two before moving to another Istanbul club with Beykozspor . At the time of his move to Beykozspor, there was no national professional league in Turkey. Instead, regional leagues existed in metropolitan areas such as Istanbul, Ankara , Izmir and Eskişehir , of which the İstanbul Profesyonel Ligi or also known as İstanbul Profesyonel Küme (German: Istanbul Professional League ) was considered the most famous . Mutlu made his debut for Beykozspor during the game in the Istanbul professional league on October 29, 1955 against Beşiktaş Istanbul . In this game he played the full length of the game. In the further course of the season he was used in twelve other games. His team remained without any ambitions this season and finished 6th in the table at the end of the season. Mutlu then played two more seasons for Beykozspor and was the undisputed goalkeeper during this time.

In the summer of 1958 he moved to Beşiktaş within the league. He was signed here for the departed replacement keeper Oktay Sertel and should act as a replacement behind the then undisputed goalkeeper Varol Ürkmez . So Mutlu completed only one competitive game in his first season for Beşiktaş. In the spring of 1959, the Millî Lig (today's Süper Lig), Turkey's first nationwide national league, was founded. This league replaced the regional leagues in the larger metropolitan areas, such as B. the Istanbul professional league, as the highest and only Turkish league. The Istanbul professional league became the first eight teams, including Beşiktaş. So Mutlu played with Beşiktaş from then on in this league.

In the first season of the Millî Lig , the championship was played in two rounds. In the first round, the league system took place in two separate groups. In the second round, the two group winners decided the championship among themselves in a final with a return leg. Mutlu took part in the competition with his team in the white group . Here he and his team finished well behind arch-rivals Fenerbahçe Istanbul in 2nd place in the table and missed the opportunity to become the first Turkish champion . Mutlu succeeded in the course of this season to oust Ürkmez as a regular goalkeeper and to stand in goal in nine of the possible 14 league games. For the second season of the Millî Lig, the 1959/60 season , the league was in a single-track league Mutlu completed all 28 league games of his team, the team made a head-to-head race with arch-rivals Fenerbahçe over the entire season Turkish championship. In the league, which was then played in the two-point system , Beşiktaş succeeded in increasing the point advantage over Fenerbahçe towards the end of the season. In the end, the team was second Turkish champions with a five point lead. The following two seasons Mutlu played unchallenged as a goalkeeper, but could not play with his team in the league for the long term for the championship, nor win any other title.

In the summer of 1962, the club signed Özcan Arkoç, one of the best goalkeepers in Turkish football at the time. This ousted Mutlu relatively quickly as the goalkeeper. After Mutlu had clearly lost out to Arkoç in the 1962/63 season, he temporarily took over the goal in the 1963/64 season. After Arkoç had left the club after two seasons with a move abroad, Mutlu rose to the undisputed goalkeeper. Beşiktaş engaged in the summer transfer period of 1964 for the migrated goalkeeper Arkoç with Sabri Dino a relatively young goalkeeper. Mutlu easily prevailed against Dino and completed most of the league games for his team. The situation did not change until the 1967/68 season. During this time he won several titles with his team. I.a. was won in the seasons 1965/66 and 1966/67 the Turkish championship . In addition, the team won the TSYD Istanbul Cup and the Spor Toto Cup in the 1965/66 season .

During the 1967/68 season, Dino finally ousted Mutlu. He played two more seasons for Beşiktaş, but was unable to assert himself against Dino and decided to end his career in the summer of 1970. With a farewell game in which Beşiktaş met a national team, Mutlu ended his goalkeeping career in the summer of 1974.

National team

Mutlu began his career with the Turkish national teams in 1958 during his time at Beşiktaş Istanbul with a commitment for the second selection of the Turkish national team , the Turkish B national team. Three years later, Mutlu played one more time for his country's B selection.

In the senior team, he was almost always left behind against the other two national goalkeepers Özcan Arkoç and Turgay Şeren and was usually the third goalkeeper in the squad. Only in the second half of 1961 did he complete all the international matches of the Turkish A selection.

He made his last international match on November 1, 1964 against the Tunisian national team .

Coaching career

Mutlu took over his former club Beşiktaş Istanbul on an interim basis for a game in the summer of 1972 , after head coach Gündüz Kılıç had previously left the club.

In addition, Mutlu later worked at Beşiktaş as a goalkeeping coach and worked with Christoph Daum , among others .
