Bülent Gürbüz (born January 1, 1930 in Istanbul , † December 7, 2004 there ) was a Turkish football goalkeeper and coach. He worked for both Beşiktaş Istanbul and arch-rival Galatasaray Istanbul for a long time and is therefore associated with both clubs.

Player career

The first years and Beşiktaş Istanbul

Gürbüz started playing football in the streets of Istanbul. He was then accepted into the youth department of Beşiktaş Istanbul . For the 1952/53 season, the then head coach Sadri Usuoğlu Gürbüz brought into the squad of the first team. At the time of his admission to the Beşiktaş 'first team, there was no national professional league in Turkey. Instead, regional leagues existed in metropolitan areas such as Istanbul, Ankara , Izmir and Eskişehir , of which the İstanbul Profesyonel Ligi or also known as İstanbul Profesyonel Küme (German: Istanbul Professional League ) was considered the most famous . Gürbüz was included in the first team as a competitor for the other two goalkeepers Ergun Aker and Mehmet Atçılar . Gürbüz made his debut for Beşiktaş during the game in the Istanbul professional league on January 6, 1953 against Adalet SK . In this game he played the full length of the game. After both goalkeepers could not show the expected performance, Gürbüz took over the goal around the middle of the season and defended it until the end of the season. During the entire season he was used in eight games and thus had the most games of all three goalkeepers. His team fought head-to-head for the championship this season with arch-rivals Fenerbahçe Istanbul , but ultimately awarded the arch-rivals three points behind. In the next season, the team competed this time with Galatasaray Istanbul for the Istanbul championship, this time behind the competitors relatively early and was five points behind this Istanbul football champion. Gürbüz increased his performance and played unchallenged as a regular goalkeeper this season.

In the 1954/55 season , the head coach Sandro Puppo brought the seventeen-year-old goalkeeper Varol Ürkmez from the youth department . This turned out to be serious competition for Gürbüz and replaced the experienced Gürbüz in five league games. This season, his team fought head-to-head for the championship with arch rivals Galatasaray Istanbul throughout the season. At the end of the season Gürbüz 'team finished the league with the same number of points and the same goal difference as Galatasaray and was only runner-up due to the direct comparison. In the next season, the team competed again with Galatasaray for the Istanbul championship and this time awarded it clearly three points behind. Gürbüz lost even more league appearances to Ürkmez this time. In the 1956/57 season, Ürkmez Gürbüz finally ousted as a regular goalkeeper and played almost all of his team's competitive games. In the league, the club remained far behind from the top of the table without title ambitions. After the end of the season Beşiktaş took part in the Federasyon Kupası (German Association Cup), with Gürbüz only being used in one encounter during this tournament. His team won the tournament, which is why Gürbüz won this title on May 1st.

Kasımpaşa Istanbul

In the summer of 1957 Gürbüz left Beşiktaş and moved to Kasımpaşa Istanbul within the league . At this club, he immediately established himself as a regular player, but played with this team for two seasons without title ambitions in the Istanbul professional league.

In the spring of 1959, the Millî Lig (today's Süper Lig), Turkey's first nationwide national league, was founded. This league replaced the regional leagues in the larger metropolitan areas, such as B. the Istanbul professional league, as the highest and only Turkish league. The first eight teams from the Istanbul professional league were accepted into this league. However, since Gürbüz with Kasımpaşa had occupied the penultimate and thus 9th place in the table in the last season of the Istanbul professional league, the club had to continue to play in the Istanbul professional league, which from then on had the character of the second highest professional league. Gürbüz played in the 2nd division for a year. For the second season of the Millî Lig, the 1959/60 season , the league was increased from 16 teams to 20. Kasımpaşa was among the four new clubs, which made the club play in the top Turkish league again. Gürbüz, who had been competing with his teammate Hazım Cantez for the post of goalkeeper for two seasons , was no longer the undisputed regular goalkeeper and was replaced by Cantez for about half of the league appearances.

Galatasaray Istanbul

In the summer of 1960, the Turkish top club Galatasaray Istanbul was looking for a good and experienced substitute goalkeeper for goalkeeper Turgay Şeren, who was undisputed goalkeeper for both Galatasaray and the Turkish national team . Last season the club tried to get along with the young substitute keepers Yüksel Alkan , Sedat Günertem and Sabri Dino , but did not get the satisfaction they expected. In the summer, the club's former player legend, Gündüz Kılıç , took over as head coach. Under this coach Gürbüz was signed as a replacement for Şeren. From the 1960/61 season onwards, Gürbüz played with players like Turgay Şeren, Candemir Berkman , Suat Mamat , Ahmet Berman , Metin Oktay , Uğur Köken , Ayhan Elmastaşoğlu , all luminaries of Turkish football, in one team. In its first season with the Red-Yellows, the team competed with arch rivals Fenerbahçe Istanbul for the Turkish championship and ultimately awarded it to Fenerbahçe with a punk deficit. As expected, Gürbüz was almost exclusively on the bench this season and only played when Şeren was out due to injury or had to sit out a suspension.

In the next season , his team delivered again with Fenerbahçe a continuous season-long competition for the Turkish championship and this time finished the league with a four-point lead as champions. This was the first time that both Galatasaray and Gürbüz became Turkish football champions . He completed two league games this season. Also in the 1962/63 season , the club succeeded in the Turkish championship and thus the title defense. His team also won the newly introduced Turkish Football Cup this season , becoming the first Turkish cup winner as well as the first Turkish double winner. Since Şeren was out from about the middle of the season, Gürbüz was in goal in almost all of the remaining games and thus had a larger share in these successes. In addition, Gürbüz's team made it to the quarter-finals in the 1962/63 European Cup and achieved the best placement of a Turkish team to date in this competition in particular and in all European club competitions in general. In the quarterfinals, the team failed to AC Milan .

In the next two seasons, Gürbüz and his team missed defending their title in the league, but won the Turkish Football Cup for the second and third time. As a result, Gürbüz was also part of the team that won the Turkish Football Cup three times in a row for the first time. Gürbüz handed the goal back to the recovered Şeren in the 1963/64 season, but still made a total of eight missions over the course of the season. In the next season, however, he took over the gate again for long stretches. At the end of the season, the championship was awarded to arch rivals Beşiktaş with a difference of six points, but was able to win the Turkish Football Cup for the fourth time in a row and thus set a record in this competition that is still valid today. In the next season Gürbüz 'played with his team for a long time for the championship, but the league was finished in 3rd place in the table. In addition, the team was eliminated in the otherwise safe Turkish Football Cup in the quarter-finals against Altay Izmir and ended the season without a title.

After four untitled seasons in the Turkish championship and the overall untitled last season, long-time coach Gündüz Kılıç was replaced by Bülent Eken in the summer of 1967 . With this new coach, the team started the new season by winning the pre-season cup competition of the TSYD Istanbul Cup . Gürbüz also largely replaced Şeren this season and made 22 league appearances. After the hoped-for Turkish championship also failed to materialize with this coach and the team had finished the league in third place in the table with an even larger point gap to the first and second placed and was also eliminated in the Turkish Cup in the semifinals, one was in the squad in the summer of 1968 major revision carried out and many seasoned professionals handed over to other clubs. The goalkeeper Şeren ended his career and the 36-year-old Gürbüz was suggested to move.

Boluspor and Muğlaspor

After the squad revision at Galatasaray Gürbüz left the club and moved to the second division Boluspor for the 1967/68 season . At this club he could not prevail against the second goalkeeper Mehmet Başaygün . So he left Boluspor after just one season and moved a league deeper to Muğlaspor . At this club he worked for a year as a player- coach and then ended his career.

National team

At Gürbüz's strongest time, the two goalkeepers Şükrü Ersoy and Turgay Şeren were in the Turkish national team . Gürbüz was only nominated as the third goalkeeper. He played his first and only international match on June 26, 1955 against the Italian national team .

Coaching career

In his last season as a player, he worked at Muğlaspor as a player- coach and was the first to work as a coach. He then trained Çanakkalespor several times . In addition, he looked after the clubs Galata SK , TEKEL SK and Bağlarbaşıspor.

death

Gürbüz died on December 7, 2004. Due to a long-term illness, he previously lost his ability to speak. He was buried the next day after the midday prayer in Istanbul's Selimiye Mosque in Karacaahmet Cemetery.
