Life

The student representative passed her Abitur in 2012 and then did a voluntary social year in a street children's center in Rwanda . In 2013/14 she studied mathematics and biology for the teaching post in Freiburg and one year later moved to Berlin to study social work .

Career

During her stay abroad in Rwanda, she made a detour to Kampala in neighboring Uganda in early 2013 . A music manager noticed her when she was spontaneously making music with other people in a bar. At the end of 2014 she was visiting the country again, the music manager contacted her and wrote a song for her in the local language Luganda : "Mumulete" ("Bring him to me!"). In 2015 it went viral in Uganda and paved the way for her to pursue a singing career with television and radio appearances. Her success is due, among other things, to the fact that, as a novelty in Uganda , she sings as a white singer in the local language.

In the meantime, she has been able to expand her fame as a singer beyond the borders of Uganda to East Africa and fills stadiums with up to 30,000 spectators. Deena is currently working on songs in other African languages such as Swahili , Kinyarwanda and Runyankore .

On June 4, 2016 she appeared in "Beatrice Egli - The Big Show of Dreams" on the station Das Erste on German television for the first time.
