The Saidenbach dam is a dam in Saxony . It is used for drinking water supply of Chemnitz and in conjunction with the dam system "KME" besides the dams Neunzehnhain I and II and Einsiedel throughout the coverage area of the administration union Fernwasserversorgung Südsachsen.
The dam is also used to a lesser extent to generate electricity and protect against flooding .
description
The dam of the Saidenbach dam is a curved gravity dam made of quarry stone masonry based on the Intze principle . The dam was built in 1929–1933 near Lengefeld in the Ore Mountains (commissioned in 1933). It is a "large dam" according to ICOLD criteria. The dammed waters are the Haselbach , Saidenbach , Lippersdorfer Bach and Hölzelbergbach.
A public path leads over the dam. Swimming and recreational sports in the reservoir are not possible, but you can hike and fish around the reservoir.
The Saidenbach dam has a pre- dam ( Forchheim ) and ten pre-basins, four of which are normally flooded.
Others
The rocks in the eastern area of the dam represent one of the few sites for diamonds in Germany. The diamonds there form microscopic crystals in garnets that occur in Saidenbachites. These rocks form lens-shaped bodies in the gneiss .
The bacterium Rhodoferax saidenbachensis was isolated from the sediment of the Saidenbach drinking water reservoir . The species name saidenbachensis was therefore chosen for the bacterium.
