Saille is a Belgian black metal band that was founded in 2009 by Dries Gaerdelen. The name Saille comes from the old Irish Ogham script and means weeping willow .

In 2011 the band released their first album Irreversible Decay on the Italian label Code666 Records. This album was very well received by the international press. Saille is known for using classical instruments (such as cello , violin , cornet , euphonium ) in the arrangements and also in the recordings themselves. In addition, different vocal styles are combined in their music (black screams and death growls as well as clear vocals).

Saille has released four studio albums so far.

history

Foundation (2009-2010)

Saille was created as a unique project by Dries Gaerdelen ( keyboard ). During the recording of Irreversible Decay in 2009, the idea grew to form an active band. In the summer of 2010 a permanent line-up was put together. The collaboration with Jonathan Vanderwal (guitar and vocals) followed from previous projects. Shortly after the start, Gert Monden (drums) and Reinier Schenk (guitar) became permanent members.

Irreversible Decay (2011)

At the end of 2009, the recording of the first album Irreversible Decay began in Shumcot Studio, Belgium . Since many pieces had to be recorded by classically trained musicians, the recording period lasted several months. The debut was finished in September 2010 and was released on March 4, 2011 on the Italian music label Code666 Records .

Saille's first appearance was in January 2011. Because of the many positive reviews for Irreversible Decay and its solid live reputation, Saille have been able to hit the stages all over Belgium. To promote the debut, a video for the song Plaigh Allais was released in March 2011 . In November of the same year Jonathan Vanderwal (vocals) left Saille because he did not see a role for himself as the band's front man. He was then replaced by Dennie Grondelaers.

Diverse appearances already got the band a place in June 2012 at the famous annual Graspop Metal Meeting festival . In December 2012 they also played at the annual Eindhoven Metal Meeting .

Ritu (2013)

In July 2012, Saille moved back to Shumcot Studio for the recording of the second album. The lyrics, inspired by death rites in ancient cultures combined with Dennie Grondelaers' interest in HP Lovecraft and Cthulhu , give the album a darker feel. Just like in the first album, classically trained musicians added the real sounds of various instruments (such as flugelhorn , cello , violin , theremin , tuba , trombone ).

During the recording, Jonathan Vanderwal also returned, this time as a guitarist. He replaced Yves Callaert, who left the band shortly before the recordings. Ritu was released as a digipak on January 18, 2013.

After the release of the second album, 2013 turned out to be a very busy year for Saille. They went on their first tour with Negură Bunget in January , followed by several appearances in Belgium and the Netherlands , supporting bands such as Textures , VON , Winterfylleth and The Monolith Deathcult . A video for the opening track Blood Libel was also released.

The last concert in 2013 took place in Denmark at the Black Winter Fest in Copenhagen .

Eldritch (2014)

In May 2014, Eldritch began recording in various studios . This time classical instruments like a grand piano and a 100 year old pianola as well as a small choir were used. Mixing and mastering was done by Klas Blomgren from Sweden.

In October 2014 bassist Kristof Van Iseghem was added to the line-up to replace Didier Vancampo.

Gnosis (2017)

The fourth album entitled "Gnosis" was released on March 13, 2017 on Code666 Records.

On July 11, 2017, Saille announced that singer Dennie Grondelaers had left the band. Then Xavier De Schuyter was introduced as a replacement.
