Saint-Paterne is a commune Déléguée in the French commune of Saint-Paterne - Le Chevain with 1,543 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Sarthe in the region Pays de la Loire . The inhabitants are called Saint-Paternais .
The municipality of Saint-Paterne merged with Le Chevain on January 1st, 2017 to form the new municipality of Saint-Paterne - Le Chevain. It belonged to the arrondissement of Mamers and the canton of Mamers (until 2015: canton of Saint-Paterne )

Saint-Paterne is about 45 kilometers north of Le Mans on the border with the Orne department .
The municipality of Saint-Paterne was surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Alençon in the north and west, Le Chevain in the north and east, Saint-Rigomer-des-Bois in the east and southeast, Champfleur in the south and Arçonnay in the southwest.
The A28 autoroute runs along the eastern edge of the Commune déléguée .
