Saint-Symphorien-sur-Couze , in Occitan Sent Aforian , is a commune déléguée in the French commune of Saint-Pardoux-le-Lac with 250 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017). Saint-Symphorien-sur-Couze belongs to the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region , the Haute-Vienne department and the Bellac arrondissement . The Commune déléguée includes the hamlets of Chasseneuil, Combas, Courieux, Crumaud, La Gagnerie, La Ganharia, Grudet, Les Guilloux, Lavaud, Masmaraud, Les Nègres, La Ribière, Les Rieux Jeunes, Les Rieux Vieux, Theillet and Valette.
During the French Revolution the place was called "Marat".
The municipality of Saint-Symphorien-sur-Couze merged with Saint-Pardoux and Roussac on January 1, 2019 to form the Commune nouvelle Saint-Pardoux-le-Lac. Since then it has had the status of a Commune déléguée. The municipality of Saint-Symphorien-sur-Couze came from the canton of Nantiat, which was in the process of dissolution, to the canton of Bellac in 2015 . It bordered in the north-west by Roussac, in the north-east by Châteauponsac , in the east by Saint-Pardoux , in the south-east by Compreignac , in the south by Thouron and in the south-west by Le Buis .
