Power generation

At Sakuma is the Sakuma dam , which feeds an important Japanese hydropower plant.

One kilometer southwest of the hydropower plant, Japan's first high-voltage direct current transmission system was built in 1965 . It consisted of a close coupling to couple the 50 Hertz and 60 Hertz parts of the Japanese power grid. Mercury vapor rectifiers were used as power converters. This system, which allowed an exchange of up to 300 megawatts between the two power supplies at a symmetrical voltage of 125 kV, was replaced in 1993 by the world's first power converter system equipped with photothyristors .

education

In Sakuma there were 4 elementary, 2 middle and one high school.
