Salicylic acid hexyl ester is a chemical compound from the group of substituted carboxylic acid esters .

Extraction and presentation

Salicylsäurehexylester, by Methylsalicylataustausch with n -hexanol using a Natriummethoxylat - catalyst are recovered.

properties

Salicylic acid hexyl ester is a flammable, hardly ignitable, colorless liquid that is practically insoluble in water.

use

Salicylic acid hexyl ester is used as a flavoring in insect repellants and laundry detergents. In addition, the compound is approved as a feed additive. The connection has been in use since the 1940s.

Risk assessment

Salicylic acid hexyl ester was included by the EU in 2012 in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 (REACH) as part of substance evaluation in the Community's ongoing action plan ( CoRAP ). The effects of the substance on human health and the environment are re-evaluated and, if necessary, follow-up measures are initiated. The reasons for the uptake of hexyl salicylate were concerns about consumer use , high (aggregated) tonnage, high risk characterization ratio (RCR) and widespread use as well as the dangers arising from a possible assignment to the group of CMR substances. The re-evaluation took place from 2012 and was carried out by the Netherlands . A final report was then published.
