Salvatore Boccaccio

Salvatore Boccaccio (born June 18, 1938 in Rome , † October 18, 2008 in Frosinone ) was Roman Catholic bishop of the diocese of Frosinone-Veroli-Ferentino .

Life

Salvatore Boccaccio entered the Pontifical Roman Seminary in 1950 and studied philosophy and theology at the Pontifical Lateran University , where he also received a doctorate in the sociology of religion . He was ordained a priest for the diocese of Rome on March 9, 1963 by Cardinal Luigi Traglia . From 1963 to 1978 he was pastor in some important Roman parishes, from 1968 to 1973 he taught religion at various schools in parts of Rome that had problems with youth riots. From 1975 to 1983 he was vicar in charge of the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore , and from 1978 to 1983 he was also responsible for the Opera Romana Pellegrinaggi . From 1983 to 1987 he was pastor of the large Roman parishes of Santa Brigida and San Luca.

In 1987 he was appointed auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Rome by Pope John Paul II and named titular bishop of Ulpiana . He was ordained bishop on December 7, 1987, by the Vicar General of Rome Ugo Cardinal Poletti in the Lateran Basilica ; Co-consecrators were Archbishop Ennio Appignanesi and his predecessor Auxiliary Bishop Plinio Pascoli . As episcopal vicar, he was responsible for the north of Rome. In 1992 he was appointed coadjutor bishop of the diocese of Sabina-Poggio Mirteto and after the death of Nicola Rotunno he was appointed bishop of Sabina-Poggio Mirteto. In addition to many mandates, he was a member of the Congregation for the Processes of Beatification and Canonization , the Pontifical Council for Pastoral Care for Migrants and People on the Move, and the “Sport, Tourism and Leisure” commission of the Chiesa cattolica in Italia .

Since 1999 he was bishop of the diocese of Frosinone-Veroli-Ferentino. Due to health problems, Ambrogio Spreafico was placed at his side as coadjutor in July 2008 .
