Ambrogio Spreafico (born March 26, 1950 in Garbagnate Monastero , Lombardy , Italy ) is bishop of the diocese of Frosinone-Veroli-Ferentino .

Life

Ambrogio Spreafico attended the Barnabite religious school and was ordained a priest on April 12, 1975 . After studying philosophy and Catholic theology at the Pontifical Urban University and biblical studies at the Pontifical Biblical Institute , where he also received his doctorate in 1984 . In 1976 he was incardinated in the clergy of the diocese of Palestrina , on November 15, 1988 for the diocese of Rome . Since 1993 he has been active in the pastoral care of the parish of Santa Maria in Trastevere and there co-founder of the Community of Sant'Egidio . Since 1998 he has been an advisor to the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples . On April 10, 1998, he was appointed chaplain of His Holiness ( Monsignor ) by Pope John Paul II . Since 2001 he has been the rector of the Church of Sant'Egidio, and since 2002 President of the Arch-Brotherhood of Santissimo Sacramento e Santa Maria della Neve .

Spreafico was Professor of Hebrew at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome from 1978 to 1991 and since 1992 Professor of the Old Testament at the Theological Faculty of the Pontifical Urban University. From 1997 to 2003 he was the rector of Urbania. From 2000 to 2003 he was President of the Rectors' Conference of the Pontifical Universities.

He was founded in 2008 by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed coadjutor bishop in the diocese of Frosinone-Veroli-Ferentino and placed at the side of the then incumbent Bishop Salvatore Boccaccio until his death on October 18, 2008. The episcopal ordination in the Lateran Basilica was donated to him on July 26, 2008 by Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Cardinal Bertone SDB ; Co- consecrators were Cardinal William Joseph Cardinal Levada and the Bishop of Terni, Vincenzo Paglia . On July 8, 2020, Pope Francis appointed him a member of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue .
