Salvatore da Ozieri

Salvatore da Ozieri OFMCap (originally Pietro Saba ; born September 3, 1795 in Ozieri , Sardinia ; † May 28, 1863 ) was a Sardinian Roman Catholic clergyman, Minister General of the Capuchins and Archbishop of the Curia .

Life

On September 7, 1811, the 16-year-old Pietro Saba joined the Capuchin Order and took the religious name Salvatore. On September 7, 1812, he made his profession in the Convent of Ozieri . The ordination received Salvatore da Ozieri on August 9, 1818. After that he was master of novices and later Guardian in the convent of Ozieri. In 1831 he went to Rome to become Secretary of the Minister General of the Capuchins. On May 1, 1837, he entered the service of the Curia as a consultor of the Congregation Propaganda Fide . Salvatore da Ozieri was elected Minister General of his order on May 13, 1853 and held this office until May 29, 1859.

Pope Pius IX appointed him on February 5, 1862 consultor of the Holy Office and on September 25 of the same year made him titular Archbishop of Cartagine . He received his episcopal ordination on October 5, 1862 in Rome, the Cardinal Bishop of Porto e Santa Rufina , Costantino Patrizi Naro ; Co-consecrators were Archbishops Pietro de Villanova Castellacci and Alessandro Franchi , Secretary of the Congregation for Extraordinary Ecclesiastical Affairs. Salvatore da Ozieri was appointed Apostolic Commissioner for the West Indies in the course of the Concordat negotiations between the Holy See and the Kingdom of Portugal .
