The Salzbach is about 7 kilometers long, orographically left or western tributary of the Rodenberger Aue in the area of Stadthagen , Apelern and Rodenberg in the district of Schaumburg in Lower Saxony ( Germany ).

geography

The Salzbach rises from several sources west of Reinsdorf in the higher elevations of the northeastern part of the Bückeberge belonging to the city of Stadthagen . After about 300 m it flows into the lower layers of the ridge belonging to the municipality of Apelern and crosses the village of Reinstorf. From here to the confluence with the Rodenberger Aue, the Salzbach is looked after over a length of 5.6 km by the entertainment association “West- und Südaue”. The Salzbach flows in an approximately easterly direction through Lyhren , passes the southern edge of Soldorf and flows into the Rodenberger Aue at the Rodenberg domain.

In terms of the morphological type of flowing water, the Salzbach is either a carbonate low mountain range rich in fine material or a lowland brook shaped by loess and clay . During the intensive agricultural use of the loess soil as green and arable land, the water was largely straightened. In Reinsdorf the brook is piped. In Lyhren, the Salzbach flows between built-up areas and gardens. In the event of heavy rain, there is a risk of flooding in the area due to the accumulating water.

use

About halfway along the section of the stream between Reinsdorf and Lyhren, the Rehbruchsmühle, a former water mill, is located .

From 1780 to around 1900, brine extracted in Soldorf was conveyed through a wooden pipeline along the Salzbach to a specially built salt works at the Maschmühle on the Rodenberger Aue near what is now the Rodenberg domain, where it was processed into table salt .
