Samantha May Kerr (born September 10, 1993 in Fremantle ) is an Australian soccer player who has played in the Australian national team since 2009 .

Career

The 1.67 m tall offensive player ran from 2008 to early 2011 for the Australian first division club Perth Glory . After three years in Perth, she moved to Sydney FC in 2012 . In early 2013 she moved to Western New York Flash in the USA and returned to Sydney on loan for the 2013/14 season of the Australian W-League. In September 2014, Kerr also moved to Perth Glory on loan and joined Sky Blue FC for the 2015 season . Kerr spent the free time in the United States at the turn of the year 2015/16 at Perth Glory. For the 2018 season, Kerr joined the Chicago Red Stars with her partner and teammate Nikki Stanton . In her first season she was the top scorer of the NWSL, but failed in the semi-finals of the final round with her team on North Carolina Courage . In 2019 she was again top scorer, this time reaching the final, but again North Carolina Courage was stronger. In November 2019, she received a two-and-a-half-year contract with English club Chelsea. In early January 2020, she played her first game with the Londoners. She scored her first goal in England on January 19 in a 4-1 win over champions and leaders Arsenal.

International

Kerr made her international debut in a friendly against Italy on February 18, 2009. At the 2010 Asian Women's Cup , she scored the only goal for the Australian team in the final against North Korea .

On April 24, 2010 she was nominated in the squad for the 2010 Asian Football Championship and was used at the final tournament in China.

She leads her national team as the captain of the 2019 Women's World Cup . On the third day of the preliminary round, she managed a four-pack against the Jamaican selection . However, she failed with her team in the round of 16 against Norway on penalties , where she was one of the Australian misses by shooting over the gate.
