Before the 2003/04 season, the Finn received a contract with the Swedish HockeyAllsvenskan , where he was on the ice for the following year and a half for Halmstad Hammers and Uppsala Hockey before ending the 2004/05 season with Stjernen from the Norwegian UPC leagues . The 2008/09 season began Ryhänen with the Espoo Blues in the SM-liiga, before moving to their league rivals Tappara Tampere , where he was under contract until November 2009, immediately before the playoffs .
