Samuel James Hebert (* 31 March 1893 in Ottawa , Ontario ; † 23. July 1965 ) was a Canadian ice hockey player , who during his playing career from 1910 to 1924, among other things for the Toronto Arenas and Ottawa Senators in the National Hockey League played .

Career

Hebert first played for the teams from his hometown Ottawa , before he moved to the professional field of the Toronto Ontario in the National Hockey Association in 1913 . Through several transfer deals, he ended up with the Ottawa Senators , Canadiens de Montréal - for which he did not, however, played - and Quebec Bulldogs . All of them were also active in the NHA.

For the 1917/18 season , the goalkeeper joined the Toronto Arenas from the newly formed National Hockey League . In the Toronto squad, Hebert made an NHL novelty when he was the first player in NHL history to be part of a transfer deal on February 11, 1918. For an unknown sum he was sold to the Ottawa Senators, for which he did not play games until the 1923/24 season . The Arenas then won the Stanley Cup of the 1917/18 season, with the Canadian today officially counting among the winning team, although he was no longer in their squad. Hebert spent the following years in the Ottawa City Hockey League and the Western Canada Hockey League , where he played for the Saskatoon / Moose Jaw Crescents and Saskatoon Sheiks between 1921 and 1923 . He let his career end in the 1923/24 season with the Senators in Ottawa.
