The name comes from the biblical person Samson , son of Manoach, from the Book of Judges , verses 13,24-16,28. The older form is Schims [ch] on too Hebrew שמשון Samson, Samsonmeaning 'from the sun'; also “Servant of God”, or diminutive “Little Sun” or “Sönnchen”. The name is etymologically a typical theophore .
