The Samsung Wave S8500 (short: Samsung Wave ) is the first smartphone that on the operating system bada of the South Korean company Samsung is based. It has been available on the German market since May 2010. At the beginning of 2011, the successor Samsung Wave II S8530 came onto the market, but it differs only slightly from the first model (these devices are now no longer officially available).
hardware
The System-on-a-Chip of the Samsung Wave has a 1 GHz ARM Cortex A8 processor core (just like the Apple A4 of the iPad and iPhone 4 ) and the PowerVR SGX 3D graphics processor SGX540. 1.5 GB of the 2 GB of internal memory are occupied by the operating system, pre-installed apps, widgets and media files. The memory can be expanded by up to 32 GB using a microSD card. A multi-touch capable "Super AMOLED " sensor screen with a resolution of 480 × 800 pixels serves as the display .
The Wave is the first smartphone to offer WLAN 802.11n - alongside 802.11b and 802.11g. It is also the first mobile phone to have Bluetooth 3.0 with data rates of up to 24 Mbit / s. The Wave is a quad-band - GSM cellular phone (GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz) and supports the UMTS -Netz in the bands 900 MHz and 2100 MHz with HSDPA 3.6 Mbit / s. There is an A-GPS receiver for determining your position.
The device has a 3.5 mm jack connection , TV output (via jack connection) and a replaceable battery with 1500 mAh, which can be charged via the micro USB socket. There is also an accelerometer to automatically switch the display and to control some applications by tilting the device and a proximity sensor that automatically deactivates the screen when the phone is held to the ear. The Wave is also equipped with a geomagnetic sensor and can therefore be used as a digital compass without a GPS connection.
The 5 megapixel camera with 720p video recording mode and LED flash is capable of autofocus , face tracking , georeferencing and photo stitching .
software
The Samsung Wave is the first mobile phone on which Samsung's own operating system bada is installed. Version 3.0 of the TouchWiz user interface runs on top of it and, in addition to a virtual keyboard, also offers input options using handwriting recognition.
With Samsung Apps , Samsung has launched its own online platform for its own operating system , which can be used to load additional bada applications.
The multimedia equipment includes a video player that plays HD videos in 720p quality, supports surround sound 5.1 and, in addition to MPEG-4 , H.263 , H.264 and WMV, also recognizes DivX and Xvid .
The new version of the Bada 2.0 operating system has been officially available for the Wave S8500 in Germany since March 7, 2012. The developer community XDA Developers managed to port Android to the Wave in 2012.
