Samuel Keller
Samuel Keller ( pseudonym : Ernst Schrill , born March 15, 1856 in Saint Petersburg , † November 14, 1924 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a Swiss Protestant theologian and writer .
Life
Samuel Keller was the son of the teacher Johannes Keller from Siblingen and his wife Christine, née Hesse, from the Baltic States , through whom Samuel Keller was related to Hermann Hesse . Samuel Keller studied Protestant theology at the University of Dorpat from 1876 and then worked as an assistant preacher in Saint Petersburg . In 1880 he was given a pastor's post in Grunau in the settlement area of the Black Sea Germans , and from 1884 he looked after the Crimean German community based in Neusatz.
In 1891 Samuel Keller went to Germany , where he held the position of General Secretary of the newly founded German Moral Association . In 1892 he moved to a pastor in Düsseldorf . In 1898 he gave up this position and moved to Freiburg im Breisgau , from where he worked as a successful preacher and publicist for evangelical evangelism in the following decades . In 1902, Keller was a co-founder of the " Eisenacher Bund ", a support organization of the pietistic " community movement " that emerged in the 19th century ; from 1902 to 1916 he published the monthly magazine "Auf Dein Wort". During the First World War , Keller supported the German war effort with a large number of patriotic - theological lectures and publications.
In addition to theological texts, Samuel Keller also wrote narrative works under the pseudonym "Ernst Schrill", mostly based on the author's experience during his stay in Russia .
