San Alberto is a municipality ( municipio ) in the department of Cesar in Colombia .

San Alberto is located in the south of Cesar 350 km from Valledupar and has an average temperature of 27 ° C. The main town is at an altitude of 125 meters, but the height of the municipality ranges from 50 to 2600 meters. The municipality borders in the north San Martín , in the east Ábrego in the Departamento de Norte de Santander , in the south La Esperanza in the Departamento de Norte de Santander and in the west Rionegro in the Departamento de Santander .

history

San Alberto was founded in 1955 by Luis Felipe Rivera Jaimes. The region was settled on the one hand as a result of internal displacement during the civil war that raged in Colombia in the 1950s, and on the other hand due to the construction of a railway line. In the mid-1970s, the population increased significantly, which is why San Alberto received the status of a municipality in 1977.
