Sarah Jane Murphy (born February 16, 1988 in Canmore ) is a former New Zealand - Canadian biathlete and cross-country skier .

Sarah Murphy was born in Canada, but her mother is from New Zealand . In her youth, Murphy lived in Nelson for a few years and has since held two citizenships. She decided to start internationally for New Zealand to be the first biathlete in her country to compete in the Winter Olympics.

Career

Murphy started biathlon in 2001. She started for the Rocky Mountain Racers and was trained by John Jaques. In January 2005 she went to the Canadian Championships for the first time, where she was fourth straight away. After good placements in lower class races, she improved a year later to second place in the national championship. In 2007 she took part in the Junior World Championship in Martell for New Zealand , where she was a good twelfth in the sprint and even sixth in the relay. She also triumphed at the Canadian Winter Games that year. At the Canadian Cross Country Championships in 2008 in Whistler , she won the 10 kilometer skating style title . In the same year she went in biathlon again in lower racing classes such as the Slovenia Cup at the start, before she was nominated for the first time for the biathlon world cup at the beginning of the 2008/09 season . Her best result to date was a 45th place in the Oberhof sprint in 2010. She was used twice at the 2009 Biathlon World Championships in Pyeongchang and was the hundredth in both the individual and the sprint. Sarah Murphy participated in the 2010 Winter Olympics. Her best result was 82nd place in both the individual and the sprint. At the 2010 Canadian Championships , Murphy won the singles title.
